Venice turns 1600
According to a millenary tradition, March 25, 421 is commonly recognized as the day of the foundation of Venice. On 25 March 2021, Venice therefore crossed the 1600-year milestone. A truly historic event, a super birthday that deserves to be celebrated properly to remember the historical and cultural roots of the “Serenissima”.
This is why over the course of an entire year, until 25 March 2022, a series of events, virtual and in person, will follow one another to celebrate this city which is unique in the world.

Venice in numbers
Did you know that there are 500 secret gardens in Venice?
When we arrive in this city we admire canals, bridges, gondolas but we rarely notice the gardens. Yet behind the high walls that line the “calle” (streets) often hide gardens as majestic and luxuriant as they are little known.
Venice is located on 118 islands separated by 150 canals.
It boasts 417 bridges of which 72 are private, 57 are wooden, 60 are made of iron and 300 are made of stone. The last one to have been built is that of Santiago Calatrava, in 2007.
The narrowest street in Venice is “calle Varisco” which is only 53 cm wide.
In Venice there is the oldest café in Italy inaugurated in the distant 29 December 1720.
And the beautiful Palazzo del Fondaco dei Turchi, seat of the "Natural History Museum" which houses the skeleton of a dinosaur that lived almost 112 million years ago.
